LIFE provides critical assistance to people living with epilepsy and their families, and programs of interest to individuals using non-medical treatments to assist with seizure control. Committed to serving all persons living with epilepsy, LIFE serves a diverse client base and offers services and education to an estimated 25,000 individuals in the region while partnering with private and public organizations.

LIFE Mission StatementLIFE will enrich the lives of people with epilepsy by providing strategies and resources for overall wellness, with the goal of allowing persons with epilepsy to participate fully in all aspects of community life. LIFE Company VisionLIFE is dedicated to the development of viable, practical programs that encourage overall health and wellness for people living with epilepsy, their families, friends, employers, and the community at large, through creation and refinement of non-medical support tools and methodologies which incorporate all aspects of mental and physical well being.
Services In Nebraska and Western IowaPresently in Nebraska and western Iowa there is no comprehensive resource for people with epilepsy to gain the education, insight, and support to take charge of managing their condition, allowing them to be active members of their communities. LIFE plans to eliminate this gap for services in the state of Nebraska and western Iowa. Although the primary population targeted is people with epilepsy, LIFE offers a resource for referrals to medical professionals and a support network for all who touch the lives of an individual with epilepsy.
With LIFE, we’ve designed an organization that provides guidance, information and support on the non-medical aspects of epilepsy care for the individual and their families, an outreach for public awareness of epilepsy, and quality of life programs for all who are interested. Our model relies on a philosophy of partnering with professionals and establishing collaborative relationships with individuals with epilepsy, their families and the community to deliver a unique comprehensive program of services.
In addition to obtaining good medical treatment, individuals with epilepsy must learn healthy behaviors and attitudes to optimize their well being and quality of life. Physician counseling alone is often inadequate to properly create a comprehensive program of wellness. Physicians in Nebraska and western Iowa may suggest reading materials, the internet, or support groups to their patients but cannot be assured that the patient or caregiver will follow through on proper lifestyle choices to optimize their epilepsy care. Living well with epilepsy requires understanding the impact of choices, behaviors, and lifestyles on seizure control. Epilepsy wellness is impacted directly by diet, exercise, sleep, stress management (anxiety, depression, emotions, coping skills), social concerns (self-image, self-esteem, working, driving, dating, school), and interacting with family, peers, caregivers, and employers. Furthermore, epilepsy is often accompanied with learning disabilities. Families need to learn how to manage a child’s education; individuals need to learn coping techniques to overcome deficits; and employers need to know how to provide accommodations. In order for an individual to gain understanding regarding lifestyle choices or self-advocacy, they must first have the skills, knowledge, and support of others. For employers, the general public, schools, or business to understand accommodations and needs of someone with epilepsy, they must also gain an understanding of those issues.

Providing information on available epilepsy centers and regional hospitals that are experts in epilespy care.Epilepsy is a unique condition whose management and successful outcome is completely dependent on the knowledge and active involvement by the individual who has it. Not only does epilepsy require the education and involvement of the patient and support people, but the creative and determined efforts of their highly trained health care professionals.

Future Planning

LIFE was established to serve Nebraska and western Iowa by offering comprehensive education and epilepsy management programs dedicated to help those with epilepsy learn to live well with the condition. LIFE will increase participation in and solidify partnerships with professionals and businesses in Nebraska and western Iowa.

Press Release:Lifestyle Innovations For Epilepsy, Inc. aka LIFE Announces Official Launch Dedicated to helping people with epilepsy improve their quality of LIFEToday marks the official launch of Lifestyle Innovations For Epilepsy, Inc. aka LIFE, a Nebraska nonprofit dedicated to the development of viable, practical programs that encourage overall health and wellness for people living with epilepsy, their families, friends, employers, and the community at large, through creation and refinement of non-medical support tools and methodologies which incorporate all aspects of mental and physical well being.Epilepsy is more common than autism, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease combined and still it carries with it a stigma that dates to ancient civilizations. An estimated 50,000 deaths occur annually in the U.S. from status epilepticus (prolonged seizures), Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy, and other seizure-related causes such as drowning. That's more funerals from epilepsy than those caused by other terrible diseases such as breast cancer, nearly 140 per day."“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the individuals who have contributed to the launch of LIFE.
